Socio-Ecological Research

The area of Socio-ecological research focuses on interactions between humans and the environment. It examines the interactions between physical-chemical, biological and socio-cultural processes, in which human kind can be perpetrator and victim, but also a designer.

Environmental phenomena are considered to be complex social problems and not merely natural appearances. Thus, human-environment systems can only be examined and explained in an interdisciplinary way and research results will contribute to sustainable development.

Sustainability is thereby understood as an objective, not to jeopardize ecological foundations, moreover, to avoid social conflicts and to act economically stabilizing. It is therefore a strategy that serves to secure the livelihoods of future generations.
